Thank You for a Successful VirtualHorror Con 2020

VirtualHorror Con started with a conversation about convention cancellations and running online games. Gehenna Gaming is a gaming event organization company, and while we weren’t worried about revenue, we simply needed to make a decision on what to do with conventions being rescheduled or canceled. From this, and some conversations with our industry friends, VHC was born.

Online conventions aren’t a new idea, but a horror-con seemed like a great way to support local game shops that were closing or struggling, our friends who rely on conventions for networking and revenue, and give something back to the community that had supported us so far.

Using charity streams as a model, we developed a plan to raise money for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. Game tickets and donations raised via charity raffles would benefit the fund and drive views for panels, workshops, and actual plays. Plus, we’d be able to offer some amazing prizes to the community in return.

As the target date grew closer we were awed by the response. The industry offering was outstanding, and the community reaction blew us away. Your contributions and support helped us pull off an amazing two-day event, and pushed us to go further than we had ever planned with game offerings, panels, and more.

This response is what got the notice of the UN Foundation. It’s what brought in some of the amazing, talented panelists and vendors that donated raffle prizes. It’s what helped us raise over $7,300 for the fund and pull off what we humbly think was an amazing convention.

So in short, thank you for your support and response, and we look forward to VirtualHorror Con 2021… because there will be a next time.
